Integrated and right-based approach to HIV prevention among transgender and hijra community Being transgender and hijra (TGH) is strongly associated with stigma and discrimination. TGH population also lack access to tailored HIV services. Alliance India has been implementing project Wajood with support from Amplify Change since November 2015. Following are Wajood Intervention Areas: Sexual Health Gender-based violence Challenging stigma, discrimination, attitude and laws Objectives of Wajood Phase-3 programme: Strengthen community systems for TG/hijras through capacity development & expanded access to quality SH services responsive to their needs Increase awareness and reporting of gender-based & sexual violence among TG/hijras and action for mitigation & prevention Support community-led efforts for policy change for TG/hijras to contribute to their overall health & wellbeing protect their right Wajood four Unit location: Noida (Delhi-NCR) with Basera Samajik Sansthan Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) with Ekta Sewa Sansthan Dehradun (Uttarakhand) with Prayojan Kalyan Samiti Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) with Utthan CBO The integrated sexual health services, gender-based violence and linkages to social protection schemes with HIV prevention have resulted in better outcomes in terms of increased access to diagnosis and linkages with treatment, care and support services. The project has also penetrated the subsets of TGH umbrella such as Jogappas & Shiva Shaktis (devotees of gods) and Hammam (TGH massage and recreational centres) based TGH.
