Project Sanjeevan, meaning ‘New Life’, is an initiative by Alliance India in collaboration with the Karnataka Network of Positive People (KNP+), with support from Teva Pharmaceuticals. Launched in August 2024 in Bengaluru, the project focuses on promoting nutritional accessibility, physical health, and emotional well-being of Children Living with HIV (CLHIV).

Why Sanjeevan?

Children living with HIV continue to face barriers such as malnutrition, weak immunity, stigma, and poor mental health. Bengaluru alone is home to over 44,000 people living with HIV, making it a high-priority region for targeted support that addresses both physical and emotional needs.

 Our Approach

Sanjeevan follows a holistic, community-based model that combines nutrition, health monitoring, and psychosocial care. Over the project period, Sanjeevan reached 553 children, supporting them and their caregivers through:

• 3,885 nutrition kits rich in protein, iron, and essential nutrients.
• Regular health check-ups to monitor weight, height, BMI, and haemoglobin levels.
• Yoga, art therapy, storytelling, and counselling sessions to strengthen mental health.
• Community events such as Children’s Day celebrations and caregiver awareness sessions.

Impact

The project brought measurable improvements in children’s health and confidence:

• 70% of children gained weight within six months.
• 24% of anaemic children showed better haemoglobin levels.
• Increased energy, better school attendance, and reduced illness frequency.
• Caregivers reported improved emotional well-being and family bonding.

Looking Ahead

Project Sanjeevan has shown that holistic interventions can transform the lives of children living with HIV. Alliance India aims to scale up this model, and ensure sustained support for children and their caregivers, nurturing a healthier, more inclusive future for all.
